Une autre longue fin de semaine a commencé en cette fin de semaine de l'Action de Grâce 2011, Je serai en congé parental jusqu'au 15 avril 2012. Désolé pour mes élèves! Mais, il y a des choix à faire dans la vie et j'ai choisi de passer quelques mois avec ma famille, et surtout, mon nouveau petit koala: Tomas.

Et question de compliquer encore plus les affaires pour mes petits élèves, l'administration de la CSDM n'a pas été à la hauteur et a DORMIR AU GAZ pour me trouver un remplaçant.La lettre d'acceptation de mon congé est datée du 12 septembre. Le réseau responsable de mon école, mon école et moi-même avons reçu la lettre en même temps. Le réseau est RESPONSABLE dans un premier temps de trouver un remplaçant. Si cela devient impossible, c'est à l'école d'engager quelqu'un. Cela semble si simple. Mais non! DORMIR AU GAZ! Malgré que ce soit la RESPONSABILITÉ du réseau, l'école doit faire la demande au dit réseau.

Ainsi, il y a une semaine, n'ayant eu vent de rien en ce qui concerne mon suppéant, je suis allé voir la secrétaire du boss pour avoir des nouvelles. Elle n'avait toujours pas fait la demande. DORMIR AU GAZ ... Finalement, la demande est partie lundi passé. Qui va payer en bout de ligne : les élèves.

On chiâle bien contre les maudits profs chiâleux qui en font le moins possible. On devrait t'y donc les évaluer et les congédier. Gangs de pourris... Pardon, s'il reste quelqu'un qui pense encore un tant soit peu aux élèves, ce sont TOUS les profs qui se présentent tous les jours. L'administration, elle, est bien trop occupée avec ses carrieres, ses hiérarchies et sa vie de bureau qui est bien trop éloignée de ce qui se passe en classe.

The 2010 Vancouver Olympics were a success. Sport won and Canada shined particularly during the second week. But, something got really on my nerves during these two weeks: the fact that the Olympics were used to impulse, one more time, the illusion of a so-called canadian identity.

It reminds me when the Pope goes to a country. How the people there hear about christianism and catholism, how religion is the best thing in the universe, how it is important to believe in a supreme being and all that bullshit...

So, we heard how Canada is a great country, how united we are from one coast to another, how we are ONE great family, and all that bullshit...

Watching Thalassa, the ocean magazine, on TV5, last night, I saw two great reports. One about Lord Howe Island in Australia which could be called Paradise and the other about a Pacific hell, the trash vortex. I talk about the latter here.

Lord Howe Island (pronounced /ˈhaʊ/, or /ˈhæɔ/ in Australian English phonology) is a small island in the Tasman Sea 600 kilometres (370 mi) east of the Australian mainland. The Lord Howe Island Group, including nearby Ball's Pyramid, is administered by the Lord Howe Island Board,[6], and is part of the Mid-North Coast Statistical Division of New South Wales, Australia. It is not considered a Local Government Areaand is therefore unincorporated (as is the Unincorporated Far West Region), but is self-governed by the Lord Howe Island Board.[1] The Lord Howe Island group was inscribed as a World Heritage Site in 1982 in recognition of its unique beauty and biodiversity.[7] The NSW Lord Howe Island Marine Park and Commonwealth Lord Howe Island Marine Park (commonwealth waters) protect the waters surrounding the island group.

San Pedro Prison or Hotel?

The largest prison in La Paz, Bolivia, looks more like a hotel, a secured neighborhood or a tourist attraction than a prison.

I was zapping around and stopped on TV5 to watch a report about that strange bolivian prison. Is it the only latin american prison working like this? I wouldn't put a fifty on that.

La prisión de San Pedro es la prisión más grande en La Paz, Bolivia, reconocida principalmente por tener una sociedad interna. Particularmente diferente de las demás prisiones, los reos en San Pedro tienen trabajos dentro de las instalaciones, pagan o rentan sus dormitorios, y a menudo viven con sus familiares. La venta de cocaína a los turistas otorga a los reclusos una significante entrada de dinero y un inusual sentimiento de libertad dentro de las paredes de la prisión. Líderes de la prisión elegidos previamente hacen cumplir las leyes de la comunidad, donde los ataques con armas punzo-cortantes son cosa común. La prisión alberga aproximadamente 1,500 reos, más los invitados que se hospedan en el hotel de la prisión. El libro “Marching powder” (“Polvo que se va” en español), escrito por Rusty Young, acerca de sus experiencias durante una estancia de cuatro meses de visita en la prisión fue publicado en el año 2003. So, San Pedro Prison is a real live prison, with real criminals; rapists, murderers, drug smugglers, etc. But at the same and very weird time, it's a tourist attraction. The gringos in one section of the prison have set up tours for travellers to come and see the prison, all they have to do is bribe every guard and officer around.

The system in the prison: the tourist money that goes into the "foundation", pays off the guards, helps other gringo inmates come over to the gringo side (Posta) away from the Bolivians, and can help buy cells (more like flats) within the prison. This money could get the inmate anything that he wanted from the outside on the inside, everything had to be bought. The cells, furniture in it, food (oh, dont worry there are restaurants in the prison), hookers, alcohol, drugs and fags.

Last week I finally found copies of this very important movie on the Web. Memoria del Saqueo was directed by Fernando Solanas.

After the fall of the military dictatorship in 1983, successive democratic governments launched a series of reforms purporting to turn Argentina into the world's most liberal and prosperous economy. Less than twenty years later, the Argentinians have lost literally everything: major national companies have been sold well below value to foreign corporations; the proceeds of privatizations have been diverted into the pockets of corrupt officials; revised labour laws have taken away all rights from employees; in a country that is traditionally an important exporter of foodstuffs, malnutrition is widespread; millions of people are unemployed and sinking into poverty; and their savings have disappeared in a final banking collapse. The film highlights numerous political, financial, social and judicial aspects that mark out Argentina's road to ruin.

From Wikipedia, we can read that Fernando Ezequiel 'Pino' Solanas (born 16 February 1936, Olivos, Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine film director, screenwriter and politician. His films include La hora de los hornos (1968), Tangos: el exilio de Gardel (1985), Sur (1988), El viaje (1992), La nube (1998) and Memorias del saqueo (2004), among many others.

He continued to make political films and was an outspoken critic of Carlos Menem, the Argentine President. Three days after such a public criticism, on 21 May 1991, Solanas was the victim of a violent attack, shot with two bullets. Despite dealing with the attack and disability, Solanas became even more involved in politics and stood to be a Senator for Buenos Aires, receiving 7% of the vote in 1992. A year later he was elected a National Deputy for the Frente Grande list, although he left the party after a year.

Solanas continues to write and direct, including the 2005 film La Dignidad de los Nadies and the recently 2008 film "La última estación". His son, Juan Solanas, is also a noted film director.

In October 2007, Solanas was a presidential candidate in the Argentine general election, 2007 for the Authentic Socialist Party.

In 2009, Solanas was elected as National Deputy for the city of Buenos Aires on the June 28th parliamentary elections, as his party Proyecto Sur became the second force on the city by collecting the 24.2% of the votes.

"Le temps des Bouffons" est un pamphlet qui circule depuis des années sous forme de cassette VHS. Je n'avais jamais réussis à mettre la main dessus. Durant toutes ces années, je n'avais jamais pensé à chercher sur le web. Quel con!

Ça a malheureusement pris la mort de Falardeau pour m'y faire penser. J'ai d'ailleurs aussi téléchargé la version qui existe sur son blog pour être sûr de toujours l'avoir sous la main.

I'll be damned. This Desmond character in Lost is not aussie but british. As well as for this Geico lizard's nationality which is not a sure thing anymore.

My wife and daughter are on vacations in Argentina. So, I have a lot of free time to surf. Last Saturday, I was watching a last season's Lost episode centered around Desmond Hume. He is the guy who was living underground in a Dharma complex and was responsible to reset a computer every 100 seconds to avoid the end of the island. I had always thought he was australian. I am kind of related with Australia. So, I know the difference between an aussie and a british accent.

Well, in this episode, I learned that he is british. WTF! I'll be damned. According to me, he is an australian actor playing a british block. In Wikipedia I stand corrected, Henry Ian Cusick (born April 17, 1967) is a Scottish-Peruvian actor of stage, television, and film. For his role as Desmond Hume on the television series Lost, he has received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination.

But, I also heard about a new interesting concept that would explain the idea of destiny, if there is any such thing: a course correcting universe. It means that if you can travel through time, you can't change the future. If you know that someone will die smashed by a falling piano and warned him. It doesn't matter. A few moments later, he might get hit by a car or something else. When something happened, there is some latitude, but it will happen in any other way. This former guy already died in this space-time vecinity, so it will happen again.

So, this brings the concept of space-time attractors, a bit like mathematical attractors are or like the state of lowest potential energy is in physics.

I also visited the Lost Web site on ABC.com. Very well done. With many interesting extras.

And what about this Geico animal. In one of the last ads, there is a twist about his nationality as well as for Desmond. Everyone thought he was from Australia, except one guy who puts doubts in all of us. Maybe he is british. Another one. WTF!

Searching through the Web, I discovered that there is no such animal such as a Geico, but a gecko, yes. According to Wikipedia, the Government Employees Insurance Company, usually known by the acronym GEICO, is an American auto insurance company. GEICO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway that as of 2007 provided coverage for more than 10 million motor vehicles owned by more than 9 million policy holders.

Le Moulin à paroles a fait beaucoup parler de lui avec la lecture de quelques textes controversés pour commémorer la bataille des Plaines d'Abraham. (Mais qu'est-ce qu'Abraham a à faire là?)

Tout le monde sait (ou devrait savoir) le nom du général anglais qui a vaincu Montcalm (qui aurait dû écouter ses lieutnants canadiens et faire une bataile type guerilla plutôt qu'une bataille rangée).

De l'autre côté de l'Atlantique chez les maudit anglais (les vrais ceux-là), plus exactement à Westerham cans le Kent (rien àa voir avec Barbie), lieu de naissance de Wolfe (le général anglais en question), il y a également des célébrations:

Le petit parc près de chez-nous accueille beaucoup d'enfants, alors ce serait intéressant que ceux qui l'utilisent soient circonspects avec leurs cochonneries.

Ce dimanche matin, voilà ce que le parc avait d'l'air.

C'est pas beaucoup, mais suffisant pour achaler les parents.

Certaines fois, ce sont des bouteilles encâstrées dans la clotûre. Il y a des filtres de cigarettes un peu partout. Quand on sait que les enfants ramassent tout et se mettent tout dans la bouche.

Une des poubelles est archi-pleine. Surprise, il y en a une autre un peu plus loin qui, elle, a encore de la place.

Et une bouteille de rhum de moins.

Quelqu'un a bu de la Grolsch hier soir...

Pas nécessairement dégueulasse. Mais comme on sait que les cochonneries attirent les cochonneries.

(update) Lundi, la situation n'avait pas vraiment changé.

La bouteille de rhum vide s'est retrouvé juste à côté de l'aire de jeu des enfants de 5 à 12 ans.

Nous avons quitté Montreal durant trois ans pour vivre à Buenos Aires qui n'est pas une référence en matière de propreté. Mais, ma conjointe trouve quand même que les montréalais sont moins propres qu'avant. Elle constate quand même une différence entre les années 2004 a 2006 et aujourd'hui en 2009.

Putain de bordel de merde! Le Tour de France 2009 se termine.

Demain, prendra fin le Tour de France 2009. En réalité, c'est la première année que je le suis avec autant d'intensité. A part d'avoir lu quelques chroniques de Foglia et d'avoir assisté (par hazard) à l'arrivée à Paris en 1996, je crois, ça ne m'avait, jusque-là, jamais vraiment intéressé.

Faut dire que la présentation sur Canal Evasion HD doit y être pour quelque chose. Les prises de vue par l'hélicoptère du Tour sont excellentes. Les commentaires des Bertrand, Garneau et Vallet sont instructifs et pertinents. On ne peut s'empêcher de sourire à voir le premier, qui à la fin de chaque émission, doit nous donner son choix concernant le vainqueur de l'étape suivante. A voir les grimaces qu'il fait, M. Bertrand semble souffrir autant qu'un obèse sur le Mont Ventoux. Sans oublier, les deux autres qui se font un malin plaisir à lui retourner le fer dans la plaie.

Particulièrement intéressants, les commentaires qui nous clairent sur la nature humaine de ces coureurs, au premier abord, surhumains. Les animateurs nous citent régulirement certaines de leurs attaques personnelles qui démontrent un côté incisif et "bitch" de première. Ça se tire dessus à coup de gros boulets. Deux exemples parmi les moins pires.

Dans une chronique publiée par Le Monde daté du 23 juillet, un ancien du Tour, Greg LeMond écrit :

"Alberto Contador a établi un record de vitesse : il a parcouru les 8,5 km de montée (7,5 % de pente moyenne) en 20 min 55. Jamais un coureur du Tour n'avait grimpé aussi vite. Comment expliquer une telle performance ? (...) C'est un peu comme si une belle Mercedes sortant d'un salon automobile s'alignait sur un circuit de Formule 1 et remportait la course. Il y a quelque chose qui cloche." (via L'Equipe)

Est-ce que c'est assez clair ou il faut qu'on te fasse un dessin en plus?

Carlos Sastre, quant à lui, pleurniche:

Si hier (dimanche), j'étais parti derrière Contador, on aurait dit que Sastre fait perdre le Tour à un Espagnol. Les médias préfèrent lancer des compliments plutôt que d'informer, ils jugent les gens sans les connaître"

Lance Armstrong, lui, ne se gêne pas pour faire des déclarations souvent plus "bitch" les unes que les autres qu'il complète par des commentaires aussi courts que cinglants sur sa messagerie Twitter.

Je me demande ce qu'il pourrait répondre au commentaire suivant laissé par Francois L. sur Le Monde.

"Je ne comprends pas que l'on fasse tout un plat du cas Armstrong: Poulidor a terminé deuxieme à 38 et 40 ans dans une équipe faible, Zoetemelk en a fait de même en fin de carrière. C'est vraiment stupide de couvrir de louange un des plus grand dopé du cyclisme: il faudrait donner une médaille à son labo.Tout comme Marion Jones il n'a été controlé positif qu'a postériori."

Anyway, peu importe ce qu'ils disent, ces gars-là méritent notre respect. Ce sont des Formule Un sur deux roues avec des coeurs gros des melons. WOW!

Un Branleur devant chez-moi.

Samedi dernier, un type se masturbait dans son jeep. Je l'ai pogné les culottes baissés en face de chez-moi sur le Plateau Mont-Royal.

Donc, si vous habitez sur le Plateau, gardez l'oeil ouvert. J'allais sortir avec ma fille. Je l'ai tout de suite ramenée en haut et je suis sorti avec mon appareil-photo. Malheureusement, avec le contraste, il est difficile de voir ce qu'il faisait avec précision. Pas que l'on veuille voir nécessairement tous les détails, n'est-ce pas? Mais, on devine, c'est bien suffisant.

Je l'ai aussi filmé, mais au moment de descendre l'escalier pour lui prendre le visage, il s'est défilé et est parti. Mais que pouvait-il bien regarder? Il n'y avait rien d'excitant à l'horizon. Il était environ 14h30, samedi le 18 juillet 2009.

Maintenant, pour communiquer avec la police de la STM, c'est une autre histoire. Le 911 n'est que pour les urgences. Le seul qui semblait en avoir une est le branleur en question. Il n'y a pas de catégorie "grossière indécence" sur le site Info-crimes. Je vais devoir téléphoner.

En réponse au commentaire de Trademarq, je vais retirer les photos et déploguer le vidéo. Quelqu’un m’a passé une info sur une catégorie de plaintes, type paperasse, à faire directement au poste de police. Je vais leur laisser les preuves visuelles sur CD.

Je voulais utiliser le pouvoir de pénétration du web 2.0 pour mettre la main sur des renseignements qui m’auraient aidé à le retrouver pour lui suggérer de changer sa stratégie ou, à tout le moins, qu’il sache qu’on l’avait pris la main dans (sur) le sac.

Franchement, le danger de représailles physiques ne nous avait pas traversé l’esprit. Mais, il est le deuxième qui aborde le sujet. Généralement, les exhibitionnistes ne sont pas de tempérament violent et agressif. Ils ont plutôt tendance à s’étouffer avec leur honte. Mais, supposons qu’il est l’exception qui confirme la règle. D'ailleurs, qu’elle était la probabilité d’en rencontrer un par ce beau samedi après-midi directement devant mon édifice?

Je m’en voudrais à mourir s’il arrivait quelque chose à mes proches pour cette affaire qui, pour plusieurs, semble, somme toute, anecdotique.

(Update) Patrick Lagacé sur son blog a écrit au sujet de types comme moi qui utilisent leur camera comme instrument de denonciation. Si vous lisez les commentaires, il est clair que je n'ai pas l'appui de ses lecteurs. Ils auraient plutôt tendance à excuser le branleur.

Voici ce que je leur ai répondus jusqu'à maintenant:

Ce n'est pas une question de morale. J'aurais probablement reagi autrement si je n'avais pas d'enfant. Je suis desole, tu veux d'exhibitionner, tu t'arranges pour le faire dans un lieu et a une heure ou il n'y a aucune chance de rencontrer un enfant.

Ben si cela l'excite tellement plus de se voir sur Youtube, j'espere qu'il n'aura pas le temps de prendre son char avant de se soulager. Ce serait pas plus excitant de le faire devant ses intimes comme sa conjointe et ses enfants? Pourquoi moi et ma fille devrions -nous etre les seuls a visionner ce show edifiant?

Si quelqu'un se stationne en face de chez-vous avec sa radio a tue-tete, vous allez l'avertir de la baisser parce que ca ne vous interesse pas d'ecouter sa musique, alors imaginez le voir en train de se la pomper.

De toute facon, ce type n'est que la cerise (!) sur le sundae puisque deux a trois fois par semaine, on a des urineux qui viennent se soulager dans la ruelle a cote de chez-nous ou dans celle en face, en plein jour. Quand je suis alle au Perou, il y a quelques annees, des femmes qui habitaient au centre-ville de Lima tiraient une chaudiere d'eau a tous ceux (et il y en avait plusieurs) qui urinaient dans leur rue. Ma chaudiere ... et ma camera sont pretes :).

@liquid paper. Dans la description sur Youtube il est seulement question de modele de voiture. Un Suzuki Vitara ca n'a rien pour exciter les enfants et les ados. Je fais confiance a leurs parents pour controler leurs allee et venues sur le web. Ma fille a 17 mois. Elle est tres mature pour son age. Mais pas encore assez pour voir ce genre de comportement :).

@julienn Il n'est absolument pas question de lynchage public. C'est un avis public. Si vous voyez cette Suzuki Vitara grise, il y peut-etre quelqu'un en train de se branler a l'interieur. Ca vous laisse indifferent, continuer votre chemin. Ca vous tape sur le systeme, envoyez-le faire ca ailleurs (sans violence). Je ne suis pas un type agressif. Ma testoterone est fort bien utilisee dans d'autres activites. Mais j'aimerais bien le rencontrer pour lui suggerer de ne plus revenir par ici. Comme c'est ecrit dans mon post. Ce n'etait pas une urgence pour le 911 et sur le site d'Info-crimes, il n'y a pas de categorie concernant la "grossiere indecence"

Last night, I heard a car with some hip-hop music playing very loudly. You don't hear that many hip-hop gold painted Volvos around here. The driver parked his car right in front of my building.

From the balcony, I saw a somewhat 16 to 18 years old teen get out of his daddy's Volvo with oversized jeans checking all the parking signs around to reassure himself that he could park where he was. Then, he walked away wherever he was going.

A few minutes later, looking down, I noticed that the passenger window was down. The genius teen had opened the front windows so that everyone could share his excellence choice in music, but had forgotten to shut it up. Of course, 15 minutes later, the alarm system started. Fortunately, no sound, only the lights.

Two or three hours later, I heard someone going crazy on the street. I looked down through the window. It was our genius looking upset. He had come back with a friend of his who was holding a rollerskate board and seemed amused by the situation. Then, I noticed that a big part of our recycling bin was on the sidewalk.

I was sure that this future Nobel Prize was responsible for it. In his anger, he would have thrown some stuff on the sidewalk. So, I went down:

-"Tabarnac, toi, tu vas ramasser mon recyclage", I warned.

-"No, no, I didn't do it. It was like this when we arrived".

Yeah sure!

But, he offered to help to put it back in the bins. So, matter closed. Then, he told me that he was upset because he had been looking for his car for about an hour. He didn't seem to understand or believe me that he had left his window down all that time.

Like, it didn't surprise me at all.

@ maxime34 Dans le cas de Dumm and dummer, c'est plus une anecdote qu'autre chose. Un ado plus ou moins distrait avec la belle auto de papa qui est a deux doigts du desastre. Avant de m'accuser de "control freak", lis entre les lignes et "relaxe mon homme". Et une chance que je parle anglais puisque l'ado en question ne pouvait pas dire deux mots en francais. Neanmoins, toi et moi semblons avoir une chose en commun, Justin Trudeau nous tape sur le systeme. :))

Bike Driver VS Transvestite.

In Montreal, we have once in a while light arguments between bike drivers and car drivers or pedestrians.

In Buenos Aires, there are many transvestites prostituting themselves. A country so macho wth that many guys dressed as womens (???). Maybe the "machismo" explains it?

Anyway, in the following video found on Rosario3 sites, this bike driver is fighting against this transvestite.

A neighbor of "Los Hospitales" district sent this video to Rosario3.com explaining that it is an example of what usually happens in the area.

The fighting took place nearby the "Hospital de Emergencias Clemente Alvarez. (HECA)" last January, but the images became public knowledge in the last few hours.

Argentina: A1H1 Flu Emergency.

My brother-in-law called yesterday from Comodoro Rivadavia (Patagonia). He told us that every public place has been closed for the A flu situation. We were a bit surprised. We hadn't heard or read anything about a so-called epidemic in Argentina.

I did some research on the Web. In fact, the Argentina government followed the same steps as did Mexico, a few months ago, and declared a Sanitary Emergency on the whole national territory. So, public places are little by little closing down. Football games are even cancelled.

The new Ministry of Health exchanged the previous numbers of 1587 infected people and 45 deaths related to the A flu virus with an estimated number close to 100000 infected and a non-declared number of deaths.

Planning to go to Argentina this summer? Well, good luck with that...

Tibet: Myth versus Reality (updated 1)

Is Tibet reputation before the chinese occupation too nice to be true? Is it really a fight to reinstaure democracy or for the return of a theocratic system based on feudalism?

Patrick in his blog (in french) started the discussion:

"... The upper casts had a right of life and death over the lower casts. Corporal punishment (mutilation, enucleation, torture) were included in the Criminal Code. Serfdom and slavery were common practice. 5% of the population owned 95% of the wealth ...

The problem is that Patrick doesn't give any references. So, are these numbers opinions or facts?

I did a little research on the web. It seems that he is partly right. Before the chinese occupation, the tibetan society was a feudal autocratic society. But, not every part of decentralized Tibet was administered the same way according to this page.

"Whether or not Tibet constituted a feudal social system or if peasants can be considered serfs is still debated. [1] Studied districts of Tibet between the 17th and 20th century show evidence of a striated society with land ownership laws and tax responsibility that resemble European feudal systems. However, scholars have pointed out key differences that make the comparison contested and only limited evidence from that period is available for study. [2] Scholar Geoff Samuel further argued that Tibet even in the early 20th century did not constitute a single state but rather a collection of districts and a legal system of Lhasa with particular land and tax laws did not extend over the entire country. [3] "

Also in Wikipedia, there is a very detailled page about Tibet. Although, it is Wikipedia. You have to be careful with what you read.

Well, Tibet before the occupation was no Shangri-La. Maybe, the big fuzz about Tibet is the CHINESE occupation. Would it have been occupied by India, Pakistan or Nepal (all US pals) and it would have been a very discrete situation.

I was biking to work yesterday morning. When crossing Bellechasse and Christophe-Colomb, the latter was blocked in both directions by policemens. I looked southwards and it seemed there was a fire near Rosemont and Christophe-Colomb. I thought that maybe it was the swinger club that was burning.

Later that day, I read the news that it was indeed Auberge 1082 that was on fire.

I noticed its existence for the first time when coming back from work on the #13 bus. I had always found it strange to encounter in the same building an EXTERMINATOR and a swinger club (now I hear you thinking about all the stupid jokes that came through my mind). I also always wondered what it could look like inside.

First, the Church of Scientology is being sued in France for fraud in a case which could see it banned in the hexagon. It is accused of exploting vulnerable people for commercial gain.

All this after Wikipedia have just banned any edits from IP addresses belonging to the Church of Scientology, which, according to IT news site The Register, "marks the first time Wikipedia has officially barred edits from such a high-profile organization for allegedly pushing its own agenda on the site". About one year ago, Scientology, the Vatican and the Mormons were caught editing the pages related to them at about the same time.

Maybe God should ask the help of Reverend George Hargreaves' Christian Party in Britain. He is quite a character. Why? After all, how could you not be amused by a fundamentalist Christian political party led by a man who, during a period in which he says he "fell away from the Lord", wrote the timeless pop classics "So Macho" and "Cruising" for never-to-be-forgotten pop chanteuse Sinitta. "So Macho" was a huge gay anthem in its time, and Hargreaves himself has said it was intended "for women to dance round their handbags to and for the gay scene to go mad to on poppers", adding "I was never gay, but I had a lot of lovely friends in the gay scene."

Of course, since those heady days Hargreaves, aided by his royalties from those anthems, has spent his time preaching that homosexuality is a sin and campaigning for a more Christian Britain.

To continue with real-life heroes, the following story is one of incredible honesty.

A La Plata taxi driver, Santiago Gori, found 40000$ left on his taxi's back seat. Through a police precinct, he could find the owners and returned the whole amount. For his good deed, he received 12000$. But, the story doesn't end here.

Then, two marketers had an idea. To thank the taxi driver, they opened a site, Devolvamosle la guita al taxista (Let give the taxi driver the money back), where they ask people to make a gift or a donation to Gori. The site will close when he will have received 28000$ in total value, money or gifts, to complete the 40000$.

What's in it for the two marketers. Nothing directly. Indirectly, brand new emails to spam ???

You can get killed for a pair of snickers. But, when a disaster strikes, people stick together to help each other. You climb the social ladder, you learn the real meaning of the word corruption.

In association with People Magazine, she presented many good samaritans who have been doing something to ease the life of les fortunate others.

Last week, Fagstein posted about the new CyberPresse's new video section. He wrote the following:

Part of me doesn't quite understand why newspapers are trying to compete with television and radio on their own turf. TV has been producing three-minute packages much longer than newspapers have, and it shows.

On the other hand, some videos I've seen demonstrate that newspapers are capable of reaching a level of depth you won't get on television outside of PBS or the occasional NFB documentary.

Well, CyberPresse reinvented the wheel since newspapers Clarín, La Nación or Perfil in Argentina have been doing it for three years now. I guess the Third World doesn't always come in third.

But, at first, the result was more or less the same with those editorial-like short videos when one reporter or columnist talks directly to the camera with nothing more than his charisma. Sure, I could listen to a Jorge Lanata during hours or to this guy playing a jewish philosopher in one of Woody \Allen's movies or to Henri Laborit talking about human behaviour. But, they remain few those who can "nakedly" excite my level of attention.

Now, thanks to convergence (gracías convergencia), the choice of content in the video section of the three newspaprs mentioned above has been greatly enhanced.

I will always remember a lecture on how to make a good TV report given by Paul-Andre Comeau, former Radio-Canada's TV reporter, in a TV journalism (what else ???) course.

He explained that the first step was to edit the images, and then, record the short text that will support these images. Since one image is worth a thousand words, you are not supposed to overload your report with too many words? In a video report, the visual should come before the writing. Seems pretty stupid, but is often forgotten by some TV reporters... and newspaper ones.

Manu Chao: Will Mexico Throw Him Out .. or Not?

Manu Chao gets older, but doesn't settle down when it comes to political involvement.

Chao this week called the 2006 arrests of protester in the town of San Salvador Atenco "state terrorism." Several women claimed they were sexually abused after police retook control of Atenco from protesters.

He is in Mexico for the Guadalajara International Film Festival.

On Thursday, an Interior Department's official told that authorities were looking into Manu Chao's statement.

Then, on Friday, the department denied in a news release that it has considered expelling the singer, who is a special guest at a film festival in Mexico.

Now, the Mexican government is denying reports that it has opened an investigation against Manu Chao for meddling in the country's politics.

That is a sign of a well organised country.

On his personal site, Chao explains that he was supposed to sing after the presentation of Carlos Larrondo's movie LT22 Radio La Colifata in La Rambla de Catalunya. But, for security considerations, if the authorities would decide to use this opportunity to make a public arrest, he decided to cancel his presentation.

One more post about what happened 33 years in Argentina on March 24 1976. Anti-socialists and communists military maniacs took the government by force. The result: 30000 people disappeared and 500 of their children were stolen and given to militaries or friends of the government. Some student leaders, 16-17 years old, were arrested, tortured and thrown out from planes into the Atlantic Ocean. Some government members were proud to say that they were not only acting like Nazis, but they were Nazis. You can check this interesting diaporama about this dark period on Yahoo.

Well, some of you would think: WTF, this is Latin America. That is politics over there.

But, closer to home, I watched last night a movie about a south american style french paramilitary group of assassins called Service d'Action Civique (SAC) linked to the De Gaulle government. They are another bunch of anti-communist and socialist psychopaths ready to use any means to eliminate left-wing supporters. More in Wikipedia in french or english.

Let just say you could have exchanged the argentinian for the french and vice-versa. Same opinions, way of thinking and reptilian paranoia about communism and socialism hidden behind a simplistic patriotic ideology. Pathetic.

As a math geek, I am always asked two things: why so many people have problems in math classe and what is the purpose of math?

This guy, David X. Li, might have found one purpose, if any: the end of financial economics. Or am I too harsch and cynical?

In Wired, a fascinating article about this canadian math wizard who helped (with no intention) crash Wall Street.

"David X. Li, it's safe to say, won't be getting that Nobel anytime soon. One result of the collapse has been the end of financial economics as something to be celebrated rather than feared. And Li's Gaussian copula formula will go down in history as instrumental in causing the unfathomable losses that brought the world financial system to its knees. "

Well, one reader (marketec) didn't like this above part of the article and left this comment:

"This statement is inappropriate. I think your conflations wrongfully implicate David's work with the poor decisions of mortgage brokers who took advantage of the sub-prime market. Find another scape goat - because if mathematicians are going to be prosecuted by the media for being smart, you'll have tarot card readers in there stead."

This other reader (crosscomplier) explains why David X. Li shouldn't be used as a scapegoat:

"The formula actually works. The problem is that the banks were supposed to keep the profits as protection against default, not the f'ing bankers.

Using your Las Vegas example, imagine if the croupiers and pit bosses kept most of the profits from each night's gambling. First Glasses: Life through a Bay Window.

Just went to pick up my new (first) glasses. First impression: it is like having a bay window stuck in your face. Won't look at life the same way as before. It will be like watching a hockey game from a ring side seat. You don't feel yourself as much as in the action compared with a seat on an upper level.

Second impression: you don't enjoy your morning coffee as much as before because your vision gets all clouded and foggy.

Third impression, it reduces subtantially your peripherical vision, and with an one year old daughter, for which you need eyes all around your head, it makes me nervous.

Anyway, I had to get some. My right eye was compensing for my left. But, my main problem was reading from close range, especially the small characters. After 40, your eyes get lazy and don't adjust as easily as before. If I wanted to read bedtime stories to my daughter who (finds me really funny with this thing on my face) will turn one on Saturday, I had to get some.

And my wife was bothering me all the time. Although, she doesn't use her own glasses. "They are in case my eyes get tired", says she. Yeah, sure. Try to wear them when you get these headaches. Maybe they are telling you that your eyes are tired. But, I love you anyway.

So, I had to get some.

Last night, I started to watch Stephan Bureau interview with Patrick Lagace on Les Francs-Tireurs. It was planned to be like 20 minutes long. But, Bureau was so "candid" that Lagace and his teammates decided to make an one hour special with Bureau. How nice! So, Martineau could have the week off to continue scabbing around for the Quebecor empire :). Just kidding! In fact, I agree with his freelancer theory.

Well, I just watched the first 20 minutes. With my little daughter turning one this Saturday, going to bed around 23h20 is about one hour and 15 minutes later than I usually do. Anyway, it was a pretty good 20 minutes, I bet the rest was as good. Indeed, "si la tendance s'est maintenue", Lagace was heading for a great interview where you see a different Stephan Bureau than the one you usually know.

For instance, that in elementary school, he was mean and fought a lot. Got kicked out of schools (even an alternative school) more often than Bart Simpson. Since he looked a bit bigger and taller than his peers, I would even say that he was some kind of a... bully.

It Is Australian Open Time Once Again.

For the past two years, I could follow the Australian Open during summertime. I was in Buenos Aires in the southern hemisphere. I wrote on both occasions what a pleasure it was to be surrounded by the same sunlight than the one I was seeing on the screen.

Wherever you are, spring, summer, fall and winter sunlight have more or less the same textures. It is easy to tell the difference between spring and fall sunlight as much in Melbourne than in Buenos Aires and Montreal.

Watching it from Montreal has been always a bit heavy because we are in the midst of winter, the coldest time of the year. We also realize that we are still far, far from spring and summer (if we have a nice one).

I also have strong ties with Australia and New Zealand.

Last year, I wrote that the Federer era was over. Sure, he is still pretty good. But, with two young wolves on his back, I don't think he'll get his 1st rank back. This year will prove me right or wrong.

So, I would still like to be in Buenos Aires to watch the Australian Open. I miss Argentina. But, of course, there are some things that I don't miss. For instance, there's always been a shortage of change tokens. But during the last two years, it has gotten worst.

The reasons: the business of selling it for a profit (4%); the one peso tokens are the same size than the one euro ones, so a few ingenious argentineans send bunch of pesos to Europe and get half a euro for each (double of its market value). So a little video from Telenoche about people waiting in line to get some change.

Or the lack of respect of the laws especially by law officers like this one who is parked in an handicaped access.

Karate Kid: Afternoon Practice Back on Track.

We really had nothing to watch last night. So, we got hooked on GAME TV and its presentation of the "Karate Kid I" to have a good laugh. So we did... But people at GAMETV are just morons or what? During the whole presentation, this parental guidance advice: This film contains scenes of violence only suitable for adults .... WHAT? In the 80's, Karate Kid was a teen movie, wasn't it? Twenty years later, it is only suitable for adults. What violence? A few back and round kicks, that is violence. Why not also advice the parents for the three kisses that could be seen as sex scenes not suitable for children. WTF!!!

Anyway, the Montreal Karate Club has a new temporary location for the afternoon classes. And they are very suitable for any people of any age who has a bit of intelligence to understand that this is no violence. More details here.

Eighteen years gone up in smoke

Well the Montreal Karate Club is no more. It was destroyed by a fire on December 23rd. After 18 years there, I might have to find another place to stay in shape. Sure, we will rebuilt it. But, until then...

I won't have the time to put as much dedication on a new martial art or school like I did for karate at the MKC.

But the saddest part goes to Sensei Watanabe who lost his home and adult life in this tragedy. Next April was supposed to be the MKC's 40th anniversary. All the archives, photos and records are gone forever. He must feel a terrible void. At least, for now, he is in Japan with his family.

As his surrogate family, the club's black belts we will support him and help him go through this horrible crisis. SIGH!

Last Wednesday, we had a friend and her baby at home for two days. For supper, I bought a couple of beers. In Argentina, we used to drink Stella-Artois. But we discovered that, here, its taste is very different... sweeter. So, we started to buy Beck's. But, this time I wanted to try something different, since our guest was argentinean, let's buy some Quebec made micro-brasserie beer. So, I bought two Ephemere apple beers from Unibroue.

WOW! Different. Refreshing and pretty good. Gosh, we make good beer around here. It is a change from the Boreal and Sleeman.

Rogers rimes with Scammers.

WTF! Another bill from Rogers Wireless and things are not according to the contract once again.

We are supposed to have one year of free video calls in our package. We are paying them. We had to go the nearest Rogers office to make the selling agent call to the customer services . We stayed around one hour. Finally, they gave us a credit for the video calls billed and the next ones were not supposed to be billed for the next year. WRONG!

On the bill from Rogers Wireless I just received, my five minutes of video call were billed once again.

Then, on this third bill, the $200 rebate ($100 fo each phone) on our two LG Shine because we took a three year plan and the Visio plan as well were supposed to be finally credited. No credit so far...

So, we will have to go back again and make someone call for us because I won't lose hours trying to get through customer service by myself. If Rogers employees can't do a good job to comply with the contract, at least, one of them will spend his time on the phone for me.

This weekend I renewed with some old habits. For instance, I hadn't written for a while on my El Circo de las Estrellas blog. I posted some bathroom thoughts on Plume Latraverse sexual life.

We decided to go to Barcelona for our next trip outside Canada. So, I will start to learn catalan. It is a language between spanish and french, but closer to spanish. Here is a music video in catalan with the translation taken from the "Catalan pour tous" blog.

Ariane has grown so much.

My daughter, Ariane, has a growth "crisis" about every two weeks. Every two weeks, she doesn't sleep so well, is more irritable, more waken-up. I guess her whole little body is stretching out and that must hurt. We notice that now she can see the street when looking through the livingroom window. Something that she couldn't do two or three weeks ago.

Last night, I was watching on TVE (España) a program called Comando Reportero. The stories were about the pilgrims who visit Lourdes in France and Fatima in Portugal. These are two villages where the Virgin Mary supposingly appeared years ago. Now, millions of people visit these two places every year in hope of a miracle.

There exists another type of pilgrims, those who are seeking medical help from alternative medicine charlatans. I watched today this investigation made by Radio-Canada on his program "Enquete". It concerns a new alternative therapy: total biology or new germanic medecine created by a certain Dr Hamer and Sabbah.

If you understand french, watch this investigation here. It is surrealistic. I can't understand how people can get fooled by those pseudo-scientific therapy. I guess a mix of stupidity, desasperation and lack of scientific culture.

Anyway, this therapy is a public danger because it asks the patients who have cancer to quit their oncological treatment.

Last night, I was smiling watching those old spanyards praying the Virgin expecting a miracle. But, today, I almost choked on my pasta listening to principles of Total Biology.

But, wait, Lara Fabian supports the New Germanic Medicine (sounds kind of nazi). Now, theat changes everything.

Why I will vote Bloc Quebecois.

Last week, I left a comment on Patrick Lagace's blog. The post was about the reasons to vote for the Bloc Quebecois. This is what I wrote:

"Conservateur, jamais. Liberal, les plus enfants de c.. avec le Quebec. Peut-etre quand Justin Trudeau en sera le chef jajaja :) NPD, trop centralisateur comme socialisme. Le Quebec a plutot besoin d'un federalisme decentralise comme celui qui existe en Australie. Les Verts devront faire trop de compromis pour se faire elire et changer de couleur. Reste le Bloc qui joue le role que devrait jouer le Senat, i.e. proteger les interets des provinces contre les tendances centralisatrices du federal.

Donc, je voterai Bloc… "

Free Market, My ...

During this federal election, we will hear some big mouths, especially from western Canada, blabbling about the free market and less government. They believe the bible and free market is God's creation. We think about Republicans in the US or conservatives (ex-reformists) here in Canada.

But, when there is a flood or a natural disaster, where do they turn to, to get some aid: Mister Government. Who is helping them with tax deductions or direct money, so they stay more competitive on the international markets? Mister Government.

What bullshit! Look what is happening with Lehmans Brothers and Merryl Lynch. Now you have CEOs who get hard-ons talking about the laws of free market. They have made millions, if not billions, in salary. They threw their enterprise in the gutter. Who are they calling to pick up the pieces they left behind: Mister Government.

Don't bother me anymore with your free market laws. You should become preachers. Very good at telling others how they should act, but can't follow their own advices.

Next time, just shut the ....

Semaine qui commence bien. Dans la même journée, dans le blogue de Patrick Lagacé et un article d' Émilie Côté, on apprend qu'il y a plus en plus de riches au Canada

Et dans L'Express, je découvre une entrevue avec Georges Soros, gourou français de la finance, qui nous explique que le système financier mondial est au bord de la rupture.

J'espère seulement que tous ces nouveaux riches sauront profiter de leur argent avant la l'écroulement du système financier, s'il se produit.

I watched last night on CBC news the story on one liberal candidate in Ontario who is trying to fool around with web 2.0 politics. The whole story is on Ormiston Online, a section of the CBC news site.

"A lot of attention is being paid to a certain video on YouTube. Posted by a conservative blogger the video is taken from a CPAC story in which a camera crew and reporter follow Garth Turner while he door-knocks in his riding of Halton, Ontario. But as another conservative blogger points out, not everything is as it seems. "

But, he is not the only one since at the end of the report, Ormiston talks about a conservative candidate who was caught for the same reason. Pathetic.

Can't fool around with web 2.0. Too many people are scrutinizing it.

RDI and Web 2.0 Politics

This morning, I was listening to RDI weekend. The Internet "specialist" tried to explain web 2.0 politics. I say "tried" because it was a nebulous explanation. If I didn't know what it was, I wouldn't have understood anything.

It seems that Canada political parties are two elections behind the american parties. Well with this type of explanation, we are not out of the wood.

Web 2.0 politics is the use of the collaborative web sites by the political parties. For instance, Youtube, Dailymotion, blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Or better, they build their own sites including or copying these collaborative tools.

There has to be an opening for the public to comment and leave opinion. The public must be allowed to share the content with others and other sites. The content should also feel and look amateurish in some ways. It should not look like a polished and scripted advertisement. It should look improvised, even homemade.
